I tried for a few trigger jobs to place my fingers inside the stirrup to perform the stone work. Each time I ended up with a less than perfect stirrup, which I had to tweak to straighten back for a uniform contact to the trigger track. All of that changed when I bought this jig. It has enough length to fit in your vise, and the best part about this jig is that it will work with any range of LOP. If you do get a trigger that has a bowed/narrowed stirrup the die is solid steel so a few taps from the plastic coated hammer fixes it with no problem. While you are at it, take a look at the track. If it is not smooth, all the stirrup work you did will be for nothing if the track is rough. Brownells has a track stone that is worth looking at. Hope this helps, that's my $.02
Simple, effective, easy to use(21.05.2011)
Got this to fix a less then perfect trigger job and it worked great. A few taps with a nylon hammer and the little waves that ran through my trigger bow were gone. Great for touch ups or if planning to drop in a new trigger.
A great paperweight(04.04.2012)
On paper, this tool seems like a great idea - the ability to re-shape a trigger bow. The problem is that if a trigger has been damaged or bent, it is almost impossible to restore it to its original shape. The hard trigger bow steel is springy and does not simply re-form itself to the die with a few hammer taps. In fact, hammering the trigger bow will stretch the metal and distort it even further. No two 1911 frames are alike. That's why you have to fit each trigger separately. If you have a damaged trigger bow, the only real solution is to replace the trigger.
I tried the stirrup on a oem norinco trigger bow. I had to tap it down to conform to the stirrup and tapped it with a brass hammer. It is so easy to use and gets your trigger bow back in line I didn' have any problems of any sort using this stirrup. I should have gotten this stirrup long ago. Excellent is all I have to say about this stirrup.
Does the job!(22.11.2012)
Just follow instructions and you're in the ball park; use trigger track stone to smooth frame. Polish bow and you're done. Without this die, you're in for a lot of work, if not impossible!
