Bigger than it looks...(01.07.2009)
This is MUCH bigger than the stock release on a Taurus 1911, in both button diameter and depth. It was bigger than I expected, but looks very good. High quality.
A lot of work to install(24.07.2011)
Seems well made but final machine work wasn't done, it needed a lot of material taken off in order to function properly. I should of sent it back, but I didn't.
Works perfect........(28.03.2012)
Works perfectly on my Ed Brown Executive Carry...so I ordered another for my Kobra. I like the look and the function.
Excellent product!(22.04.2012)
Purchased this part for my Ed Brown Executive Elite. Dropped right in with no fitting required. Looks awesome and works perfectly.
Excellent buy(21.04.2018)
Dropped right in to my ATI FX 1911 with no fitting required. Much easier now to release the magazine than with the stock release.
Machining should be better for the $$(09.12.2009)
Maybe I received one that eluded QC.
The machining along the length of the body was very rough. There was a large, rough ridge sticking out around its circumference at the level of the slot that the tab on the lock sits in before installation.
The ridge had to be filed and smoothed before the release would even fit into the frame. Then, further smoothed to allow a mag to be inserted without having to press the release.
The length and diameter of the button are perfect for me, but I have weird hands (long fingers, relatively short thumb) and like thicker grips.
Once fitted, I really like the unit, its just that at this price point, the poor machining was disappointing.
Also Slipped Through QC(15.01.2011)
The part was not machined properly at all. Needed major fitting to allow magazine insertion into the gun.
Requires Fitting(03.08.2012)
I bought this knowing it would require some fitting and it certainly did! I used emory cloth to remove material on the rounded areas and a dremel to smooth the 'catch' part. I couldn't insert a magazine until I smoothed and reduced the area of the catch.
Once fit, it seems to work well. I really like the oversize button on my match gun (USPSA single stack).
Great Product(31.10.2013)
I build and work on a lot of competition guns in my shop & this is a very popular mag release. It is machined (not cast)from very hard steel. Ed leaves material on the tab that holds the magazine so it drops right in & functions perfectly on some frames, if magazine insertion is a little stiff you can shave a little material to change the feel. Because of this I know I can use it in any single stack frame. GREAT PRODUCT!
Gross negligence in QC......maybe(26.07.2014)
I bought this part for my Springfield Armory 1911 Loaded Target with the understanding that minor fitting might be needed and am ready and able to do do it. Even after reading the reviews that one reviewer wrote about rough edges and excessive fitting required. I thought he was just complaining about a little work. When I received the product, I was horrified to see that my button came without the 20lpi checkering on the face of the button. I immediately went to Ed Brown's website thinking maybe I got the wrong part and found out they don't even make one without the checkering. This is gross negligence in quality control. How do you expect me to buy a gun you build if you can't even get your parts right.
Awsome Mag Release(05.03.2015)
Very nice mag release, minimal time to install, button checkering is sharp and symetrical, little chance of your thumb slipping as it feels like it is glued to your thumb! Fit and finish are very good. A well spent 15min. to install. It even works well with my holster as there is no interference what so ever. I will be fitting my other 1911's with this mag release. I feel it was a good Purchase and am very happy with it.
