Excellent choice for Marlin 1894(12.01.2021)
Exact fit for my 1970s Marlin 1894. I have read that some other models may have fitting issues, but I guess that with a metal file most of these can be corrected.
Two things I disliked : - No link to mounting video, instructions are just text and short - Youtube video shows XS shipped a plastic tool for sights removal in earlier versions but didn't in the one I bought and I ended up ruining parts of my Marlin because I had only metal tools
Works just as advertised(21.06.2011)
I have 2 allready one on my 30as and one on my 1895GG. Works great on those two and I hate Marlin stock sights.
Very high quality fit and finish(31.12.2011)
I purchased this product to replace my Skinner peep sight that I was never quite satisfied with. Very high quality product with superior fit and finish. Installation was very strait forward and XS gunsmith videos are available on XS website.
needs better product detail(18.05.2011)
product does not fit 308mx rifle front screw holes are spaced wrong in the front ramp. to repair problem was to sell parts to solve problem
Poor Design on Rear Sight(18.08.2017)
I have used the XS Sights extended rails for years but I always used the Low Weaver Back-up sight when using irons on the rails. This time I bought the rail combo that uses the integral rear sight. The screws used for windage and elevation on this rear sight are poorly designed. It is a flat head screw that is too small to fit any of my gun smith screwdriver bits, and a tad too wide for eyeglass screwdriver. Plus, the factory Loc Tite applied to the threads was frozen. I ended up stripping the screw badly. They need to use a torx head, or an hex head design that works!
Pros & Cons mounted to 336c .30-30(20.08.2012)
#PROS#
Longer sight radius Quick Aquisition of target with ghost ring sight Adjustable sights (not quick adjust though) Near Endless choice for quick sights or optics Sturdy Construction (Solid**) Two Different Size rear sights Small, Large. Weaver/Picatinny base Follows barrel Contour to perfection Fixes in 3 positions,it might have been four...(been about two years now)
**And when I mean solid I mean when I shot this with a bipod I had four rounds touching at 100 yards using federal powershok 170gr. (I thought I was missing the target but they were all landing in the same spot, a pleasant surprise) This was about two years, after having been mounted.
#Cons#
Sanding had to be done in order to get the parts to fit but they are supposed to be like that or you will not get the proper tolerances needed, so not really that bad and you shouldn't go "didn't expect that" but if you did maybe you'll read all the available literature next time.
The screws used to secure the windage on the rear sight are tiny and fragile a little abuse will have stripped screws and scratched metal, but if you do it right you'll be fine just be cautious and don't over tighten just use loctite or your equivalent. Which if I remember right they supply you with, a small little tube I think...
All In all if you read the part about the four rounds touching at 100 yards what else do you need to know?? The scope? CenterPoint 4-16x40 cheap wally's special. The rifle (336c .30-30) was not the economy version though it was bought at a gun shop.
Hopefully you scraped enough info about this piece from this crazy review to form an opinion about it, yeah it's a little spendy but once you get it you won't look back, oh and if you are going to mount a scope don't forget to get some quick detach scope rings, quality ones so they are solid.
If you would like to see this on the rifle in a neat video visit you tube and look up "Marlin 336 Jesus Christ it does have kick!"

XS SIGHT SYSTEM(01.10.2012)
A VERY NICE AND USEFULL PRODUCT FROM XS SOLID SYSTEM SOME SMALL FILLING WORK REQUIRED TO LINE UP MOUNT SCREW HOLE BUT THAT EASY ENOUGH WITH USING FINE FILES AND THE JOB IS DONE NO WORRIES. IF ONE IS GOING TO MOUNT A SCOPE ON TOP USE HIGH SCOPE RINGS TO CLEAR REAR GHOST SIGHT NOTHING ELSE TO WORRY ABOUT LOOKS GREAT DRESSES UP THE RIFLE NICELY AND IT IS PRACTICAL.
good concept, POORLY executed(08.12.2012)
first of all, the front sight does NOT fit the 336 XLR. this should be clearly stated in product description. I had to wait 2 weeks to get the correct front sight directly from XS.
filing of the frontmost hole was necessary to allow all the holes to be aligned.
fitting was also necessary for the piece which installs in the marlin factory rear sight dovetail.
the worst part, however, is that it does not fit the receiver/barrel height difference. when you screw the rail to the receiver, the forward section is slightly elevated off the barrel. the rail then bends downward when you tighten down the forward-most screw to the barrel. i tried mounting a scope and it could not be zeroed since the rail was not level on the rifle. now i will have to sand down the bottom of the receiver portion of the rail to make the rail level on the rifle. this has been such a headache. i wish they would just make it to the proper tolerances so it does not require all kinds of gunsmithing to get it to fit.
great, but....(14.11.2016)
put this on my 336BL. built great, only a little fitting needed (just makes it fit perfect) group size is noticeably smaller. the only problem is ZEROING THE SIGHTS. windage was eazy enough, but I cant get the elevation low enough to be even reasonably close, with the small apeture its still 9-12 inches high at 100 yards. maybe a lower rear sight base, taller front sight, or both. but as it is it looks like I'm stuck with kentucky elevation or using the rail for a scope.
Dinged up and missing a screw but...(30.05.2011)
I don't know how the rail got a few dings on it the way it was packed in a plastic tube, and it was missing one screw for the front sight which Brownells sent out right away. I really didn't want to waste my time returning it for a few dings. Despite that I really like this system. It's easy to install and target acquisition is quick. Plus it makes my new 1895 ABL look awesome!
Must has addition to Marlin 1895(31.05.2011)
Very straightforward install and is a major step up from the factory sights on the 1895.
Installed the XS sight system on my 1895GBL and was done in about one hour. What took the longest time is installing the dovetail pillar block since you need to file it down for it to fit in the dovetail where the rear sight was located.
Didn't think much of the plastic punch they provided in the kit. End up using a steel one I had to remove the factory rear sight.
Be cautious about using the loctite they include. The mid-point screws are open to the action below, so use sparingly and immediately wipe away any excess that drips in to the action.
Read the instructions completely before starting and take your time.
Great system(28.12.2013)
Install wasn't hard at all. And it is 10x better than the factory sights. I installed this on my 1895GS. What made me pick these sites was the ability to use the rail mount to put a scope on if wanted and these sights improved the shoot ability so much I currently don't plan on adding a scope. I have zero complaints, I have been using these sights for over a year now and I love them.
On many of my lever guns(27.04.2015)
I have this system installed on virtually all of my Marlin 336's and1895's. Six in total. Great sight picture, rock solid and adaptable. If there was an easy way to make the peep sight adjustable in the field that would be an amazing addition. Not required though. Wish there was a Browning BLR version.
Huge Improvement over Factory Sights(02.02.2017)
Once installed this sight is great! They have install videos on their website/youtube which really helped. The written directions included are decent as well. I could not remove the factory rearsight with the plastic punch they included and used a brass punch instead. The only challenging part is removing the old sights especially the dovetail. Putting the new dovetail slot in took a bit of filing to remove enough to fit.
Originally I planned on using a red dot with the picatinny but may just use the ring sight by it self. I am very happy with the xs ring sight and would not hesitate to buy again.
