It leaks powder! It's not too bad for rifle powders. Maybe drops a grain or two on your bench. But gets smaller pistol powders all over the place.
This is a great measure(17.09.2012)
This measure is great. it has a shut off so you can just twist the drum, throw the rest of the powder then empty the drum, no spills. Mine throws consistently +/- 0.1, it is more accurate than my chargemaster. Also, I cut the solid stop away to make it more accurate. By doing it, it allows the drum to completely close so powder doesnt bridge. But word of warning - cutting the stop away renders the measure unusable on a progressive press, but I dont have one, so not an issue for me. I bought one for my dad as well and his leaked at first, but i took it apart, washed it with soap and water, let it dry and coated the inside parts with powder graphite, no more leaks.
It ain't perfect but it may be the best(26.08.2013)
The dictionary definition of perfect is: "accurate, exact, or correct in every detail" and this does NOT describe the Lee "Perfect" Powder Measure.
That being said, based on reviews, it probably is the best available, especially at the price.
And that probably describes most of Lee Precision's reloading equipment and products. I use nothing but Lee and have for over 20 years. I think it is by far the best value on the market today.
I have used my Lee Perfect Powder Measure since I started reloading in 1992 and I've always had difficulty in getting consistent measures of powder thus requiring that I weigh every load. That, of course, slows down the entire reloading process. I've found that loads can vary as much as +/- 2 grains but usually are between +/-.05 and 1 grain. Since I rarely load maximum loads, this does not usually present a safety problem but it can cause a wide varience in in muzzle velocity and accuracy. At a particular setting I have never gotten more than four straight loads that were exactly the same.
Still, when you read the reviews of other similar products...some significantly more expensive...the Lee Perfect Powder Measure stands up well.
It would be wonderful (and fast) to be able to drop load after load with confidence that each one would perfectly match the last one or at a minimum be within +/- a half a grain. That doesn't seem to be possible with any powder measure. So, I continue with my Lee, weighing each load and getting consistent muzzle velocities as a result.
The stand used for bench mounting is strong but flexes noticably when the handle is pulled but it's held up for thousands of loads and is still going strong.
It is a quality product and it's easy to use and adjust. I would recommend it to any reloader.
Not so perfect, but still a good deal(05.10.2013)
I've used mine for almost 5 years. It works and is relatively accurate. I would say within +/- 2 about 80% of the time. Part of that is the human factor of inconsistent throws. One wouldn't think that how you throw the lever would cause a variation, but it does. So, I go for a lower output and then trickle the rest. For the money, it's a good deal. I don't think any other manual dispenser would do much better.
great value(06.11.2013)
Works perfect on most powders, wide charge im loadin 4.0gr 9mm and 30-06 with 52gr, only adjust the knob and there you go, also very accurate, i dont tap, knock the body, there is when you get diferent measures. smooth, no lick, a must have. greeting from Argentina
Does what it's designed to do but.....(11.07.2014)
It's hard for me to criticize any LEE product. I started loading in 1967 after I fired my first box of store bought .45ACP target wadcutters. I bought the origonal LEE loader and loaded those same 50 pieces of brass no telling how many times. I still have them and the box they came in (just for old times sake) That old LEE loader was slow but it felt well made. Today, except for special situations I buy only LEE loading dies. I bought two of the current "perfect measures" just because they were LEE products and as far as I can tell they both accurately dispense charges. Problem is they are cramped and clumsy to operate and nothing you do will make them feel good when using them. I lubed the rotors with powdered graphite, ran hoppers of the dirtiest powder I had (Bullseye) through them, lightened up the tension screw 1/8 turn and made "maybe" a 10% improvement. Bottom line, I wish LEE made something between this $25.00 measure and my $250.00 Harrell with ball bearings! PS: Mine are very accurite IF I DO NOT double/tripple tap the up or dowh stroke.
VERY ACCURATE WORKS WELL(29.09.2015)
SET THE LEE PERFECT POWDER MEASURE UP ALONG SIDE MY OTHER( MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE) POWDER MEASURE ON THE BENCH AS A ALTERNATIVE TO AVOID HAVING TO CHANGE EVERYTHING FOR LOADING ANOTHER CALIBRE....THE BUILD QUALITY OF THE OTHER BRAND IS MUCH MORE ROBUST...APART FROM THAT BOTH WORK EQUALLY WELL DON'T FORGET THE PRICE VERATION YOU CAN BUY ABOUT FIVE LEES TO ONE OF THE OTHERS GREAT AS A BACK-UP......
Not suited for H110(09.01.2018)
Looked great on paper, received as part of my 50th kit.
tried adjusting the tension screw and running a hopper full to coat as instructed but still leaks a lot. I've heard others mention it works better on other types of powder but this is pretty unusable for H110. Will have to look for another alternative.. shame b/c the remaining lee products all work fine
