A solution the really works(07.07.2014)
It's very seldom I am as pleased w a purchase as I am with this.
The results have turned my Pistol (Ruger Mk III hunter SS). into a pleasing and accurate shooter. Installing the kit was easier than taking it down for a complete thorough cleaning but if you are not mechanically adept or experienced you might find it a bit tedious. There are a number of Net Videos on the subject. The fit and finish on parts is excellent and probably better than original. This kit was designed for a Mk II and doesn't support the Magazine/ Trigger interlock so It was left it out. There may be local laws and resale to consider. The SS trigger looks and feels great. Magazine release is cleaner and it, and the extended bolt release can be operated w 1 hand now. As an amputee these are big pluses for me. The bolt release may interfere w some holsters but it could easily be trimmed to suit. I would buy this kit again without a 2nd thought. I use this gun for varmint control, as a rifle is too awkward for me. It now works better than my older Mk II, and that's darned good. There are good installation instructions but no pictures so you need to know the parts by name and will need the Ruger manual. There is nothing to describe the adjustment of the travel limiting screws but it doesn't take much to figure it out. Too much limiting and the gun will fail to fire or fail to reset and you just need to back up a bit. Precaution, Do not dry fire. Save a few fired brass for that, or buy a snap cap. Has nothing to do w the kit but is needed for the proper take down process. If you don't you may burr the chamber throat.
Kit was delivered in 4 days spanning the 4th of July! How can you beat that? Thank you Brownells.
Great trigger(13.05.2015)
This is the second one I've bought. Fairly easy to install and adjust. The end results are in my opinion the best you can buy in a box. I really can't say enough good about Volquartsen products they can turn your ordinary Ruger into something that's a pleasure to shoot.
Good final result, but difficult install(04.02.2016)
First let me say that I have several 10/22 Volquartsen products I am very happy with and, once installed, this one appears to perform well with improved trigger pull, but the installation was painful (at best) on my MarkII, Note: I have a mechanical engineering degree and am very mechanically inclined, and with plenty of detailed videos online highlighting the process, you would think this would be pretty straight forward (although at one point you are going to wish you had three hands the size of a gerbal). Anyway, once installed my safety would not actuate. After some extensive troubleshooting time (i.e. re-installing the original parts to check function, then progressively mixing and matching old vs new hammer, sear and safety assemblies and reassembling after each iteration (which is the tricky part of the build) it became obvious the slot/hook on the safety bar, had an interference fit with the new sear. End of story, I ended up having to remove material (which took another couple of rebuild passes) on the stock safety hook so that new sear could engage properly without excessive force. Once this was done, everything was fine, but I bought this "drop in kit" so I wouldn't have to do any fitting or smithing. Given the time I spent I could have probably done a home built trigger job for far less money. After my experience, I can't really recommend the kit as a drop in scenario...
Two out of three, not bad.(04.11.2016)
I have used this kit for two Mark III pistols and had no problems installing them. Both went from over 5 pound trigger pulls to right at 2 and 1/4 pounds, which makes them legal for NRA and CMP competitions. My third install was on a Mark III .22/45 Lite and it gave me nothing but fits. I think the main problem is that the Mark III's had a steel frame while the .22/45 is polymer, but I also had a few problems with the parts kit. The hammer bushing that they include did not want to fit in the hole in the hammer. The two before dropped right in, this one required a little persuasion with a rubber hammer. Not a big deal, but one that surprised me. After the install, I could not get the hammer to drop consistently. It felt like it was hanging up or not re-setting properly. The problem was that the pre-travel screw had been set at the factory in too far. After backing it off a full turn the pistol fired every time. It also appeared that the trigger transfer bar was hanging up on the sear and not letting the trigger re-set. I used some emory paper on it, just to polish it a little and it seems to help. The trigger on the .22/45 breaks right at 2 pounds, so it is not legal for competition since it will not pick up the 2 pound weight and hold it, but since this one will not be used in competitions, it is not a problem.
Highest Quality Product(30.01.2017)
Volquartsen is a well known and respected company, and I have had some experience with their products in the past, so when I decided to to an action upgrade to my recently purchased Ruger MKII pistol, I immediately thought of them. Bought this kit from Brownell's and I just can't say enough good things about it. The precision and quality of the components in the kit is just unbelievable. The installation process wasn't too bad if you have had some experience with simple gunsmithing. Installation instructions were adequate, but there wasn't any adjustment instructions included. This wasn't a huge issue to me because I think most users who buy this type of product has a general idea of how the adustments would be done. I highly recommend this kit for anyone who wants to make the trigger pull on their MKII ruger as smooth as glass.
Huge improvement(20.04.2010)
This kit offers a huge improvement over the factory trigger group. The sear, sear spring, and trigger components go in remarkably easy.
It's the hammer parts that throw a person off, mainly because there isn't an actual diagram that shows how the magazine disconnect spring actually fits into place. To make it simple, the spring goes behind the magazine well.
My trigger is a nice crisp 3 pounds.
I will say this. After doing it once, I can do it again in a heart beat. It is a worthwhile kit to add to a Ruger.
Well worth the cost for a target pistol(04.06.2012)
I installed Volquartsen's VC2AK kit in my Ruger Mark III 22/45. Yes, that's a Mk II kit on a Mk III.
Throw in Volquartsen's Mark II Hammer Bushing (VC2HB, 930-000-056) and away goes the dreaded magazine disconnect.
Installation instructions are a little scarce. Volquartsen has an instructional video on Youtube but it looks more like a contest on how fast you can detail strip/reassemble a Ruger ... Anyway there a plenty of other resources on the Internet to help you put everything back together (take a few pics of your gun before/as your strip it !).
I don't have a trigger pull scale so I don't know the exact trigger pull but it's significantly lighter than with the stock parts. Trigger break is crisp. Overtravel can be adjusted to be minimal.
This kit uses the stock mainspring. No reliability issues compared to the stock parts (I mainly shoot CCI Standard Velocity ammo).
Removing the horrible "magazine safety" makes disassembly/re-assembly faster and simpler and magazines drop free just like in any pistol, allowing quick reloads.
In short: a nice addition to your 22LR Ruger if you intend to use it as a target/bullseye pistol.
Outstanding !(26.12.2012)
Dropped this in my new Ruger Mark lll 22/45 lite Also you need the mark ll hammer bushing It's Fantastic !
Great upgrade!(21.02.2013)
I added this trigger to my early Gov't Target Model, and it is a huge improvement over the stock trigger. You can almost get 100% of the pre travel out, and the trigger pull is so much smoother and lighter. I don't have a trigger pull gauge but it's got to be under 3lbs. All in it took around an hour to install (and I took my time). The directions are actually pretty good if you've studied the parts a bit, and there are various how to video's on the net for this application. The hardest part is getting the safety back in while holding the sear forward, while retaining the safety spring and ball, but I got it after 3 tries. Great trigger set, I can't wait to try it.
GREAT upgrade(27.01.2014)
I purchased this kit and installed it in my MKIII 22/45. It gets rid of the stupid magazine disconnect, which makes takedown easier and makes mags drop free. On top of all of this, it's a FANTASTIC trigger. Light, crisp break, no creep, no overtravel. I'm very satisfied.
The picture is a little outdated though, as the kit now comes with the MKII hammer bushing. I thought I would need it to install the kit in my MKIII, but it's included, so I can send the bushing I bought separately back. Nice little bonus.
Worked Well for Me(06.04.2016)
I bought this trigger for my new 22/45 Lite which arrived with the stock trigger @ 7.5lbs. With a SureFire suppressor and Trijicon MRO optic, I put about 200rds through it and the trigger stayed around 7.25lbs. After installing this trigger kit, this trigger now breaks @ 1.75lbs, not crisp but with a slight roll to it; quite a good improvement. I'll echo the other reviews, you really should watch some of the Youtube videos, pick the best one and then follow it. I have a pretty good background in different trigger systems and I probably would of broken something here w/o watching the videos.
Not bad(10.08.2016)
I purchased this assembly for a Ruger MKII standard, in order to lighten the trigger pull. Installation was pretty easy, but I had to give it 4 stars, because some material had to be removed from the bolt stop side of the trigger, in order for everything to move freely, it amounted to about .004 of material removed, and had to be done so the trigger would return after being pulled. The problem is actually the right side of the trigger where the trigger disconnector pin installs into the trigger, there is a recess where a ridge of the disconnect slides into it, however, the ridge on the older MKII's is a little wider, and wont fit, therefore, material must be removed from the opposite side. It did lighten the trigger pull some, and the over travel was drastically improved.
Volquartsen Accurizing Kit(05.03.2017)
I've got one of these on my Ruger Mk II, and everyone that shoots it is amazed with the trigger pull and accuracy, even though the pistol is over 40 years old, so I'm getting one for my Mk III. I'm gonna have the most accurate .22 pistol in the hole darn state!
