great product for the price(16.09.2012)
Read reviews about difficult install.Easiest install you could ask for. Don't remove the spring!!! Take off the grips and remove the pin that holds the latch only. put the new latch in replace and pin. Thats it- 10 minutes tops and it works.
much better than stock(14.07.2018)
five minute install, do NOT remove spring - polished the SS unit to match my mk 2, looks good, works great, good price
A Definate Improvement(23.12.2010)
Let's face it...the factory mag release is the pits! This is a vast improvement in that it sticks out far enough to get a finger under it and it makes magazine changes soooo much easier. I have installed about a dozen of these on my guns and for customers, and never had any problem. Before you remove the old factory magazine release, be sure and make a mental note of how that spring goes in there, or you will be a bit baffled on how to install the new one. Since you are fighting the spring pressure, it is a bit of a trick to get it installed, but not bad.
Not a Drop-In Part(15.04.2011)
Ended up removing this since the magazines won't seat with it. I had to file it down some to allow the magazine in, but is still would not seat properly; would not lock in place. Rather than waste any more time on this I reinstalled the stock part which works just fine.
What was the other reviewer thinking!?(05.03.2012)
This product is the best (and only) accessory I use for the Ruger MK II. I have a few and all of them have Ranch Products releases on them. There are two things this does. First, you don't have to push the release back to insert the magazine like you do for the factory one. Second, it's MUCH easier to push to release the magazine.
Another reviewer made the assertion that their release didn't work and they just sent it back. Huh, six or seven installations later, I'm going to call that assertion bogus.
Good piece(07.06.2012)
First off this was a pain to install. If anyof you have removed the mag release you know how bad it is. But other than that it is a good option, I was thinking the tang would be bigger but I guess it's big enough it won't get stuck on anything but big enough to work well. It is a little skinny for the frame as it has a little lateral movement but nothing to worry about. Overall good product and worth the money.
works on mark 1(11.06.2012)
so i give it 4 stars ONLY because it has no instructions. Now check it out ALL mark 1 users this product works great make sure you study the spring orientation before removing stock release, AND unless you have a gun vise, take down your weapon to install this release. I spent an hour trying to balance the gun and install new release lever, but when i took off the barrel and tried, it took less than a minute.
Excellent results, big difference.(15.04.2013)
I bought this part because I was having a problem with releasing and installing magazines due to my arthritic hands. Installation was easier and quicker than I expected, after reading some of the reviews. I took the grips off and pushed the bottom pin through the frame with a ball point pen. To put it back together, I pushed the new release against the spring and then toward the back of the frame, aligned all the holes and inserted the pin through the frame and the mag release. I had to lightly tap the pin into place with a plastic screwdriver handle.
When I checked for proper function, the empty magazine was hard to insert into the frame and the mag release would not fully close to hold the magazine properly in place. I spread the ears on the mag relese slightly, which allowed the magazine to insert properly into the pistol and lock up tightly. As someone else mentioned, it is not only easier to remove the magazine now, but also easier to insert a fresh magazine into the pistol. Although the release extends lower than the original, I do not expect to have problems with it catching on something and dumping the magazine.
