If I could give these 0/5 I would.(25.06.2012)
I purchased two of these mags for a Nighthawk Custom Predator in 9mm. These mags cause the first two to three rounds to nosedive every single time. The additional front ramp on the mag does nothing to alleviate this and in fact provides a much rougher surface than the pistol feed ramp. Polishing the front ramp on the mag did nothing to help the magazine feed rounds. If by some miracle the mags actually feed the first round from a full magazine, it's followed by a failure to feed/double feed. The magazines will only function correctly with 6 rounds in them, making them essentially useless.
The nose dives and failures occurred with all ammunition tested: 115gr FMJ, 125gr copper wash semi-wadcutters, 115gr JHP and 135gr ball ammo. Perhaps these mags work in some 1911's but unless you've tested out these mags before and know that they work in your pistol, give these a miss. Spend a few bucks more and get some Wilson Combat mags and avoid the rage-induced aneurism that these mags will give you when they fail time and time again. The only thing I can recommend these mags for is for fixing 9/16" of wobble under your kitchen table.
No problems(15.07.2012)
I use these in a Dan Wesson Guardian. They haven't given me any problems.
works well in my DW PM-9(12.11.2012)
Don't know about function in other 9mm 1911s, but these work well in my DW PM-9. Feed/function was fine; easy to insert in gun when full and slide is closed, ejects fine, and slide lock @ empty okay too. In my pistol, if I remove a mag (e.g., Checkmates that came with gun, Tripp CobraMags, and Wilson ETM) that still has rounds in it, the top round usually pops out (seems to be dragged forward by the previous round being chambered): this does not happen with these mags. Welded base design makes disassembly for cleaning more difficult (though easier than with the DW/Checkmate mags). The pre-drilled holes in the base matched with some base-pads I had left over from some Shooting Star 45 mags.
You will not be sorry(17.03.2013)
I use these magazines in my bianchi and steel guns. I have shot many thousands of rounds through them and they run flawlessly. In my opinion these are the best mags you can use for your 9mm ss guns.
Works as expected(02.04.2013)
Just what I was looking for! Makes my 9mm RIA GI model a JHP eating beast. Something it won't do with the factory Checkmate or a Wilson Cambat 10rd mag. Without issue, I shot a mixed mag of Speer Gold dots, Hornadys and a couple old unidentifiable JHPs.. I'm so impressed I'm ordering another.
Factory Mags(24.08.2014)
These mags are the same ones that came with my 1911-A1 and they worked without any problems right out of the package. Quality product and would buy again.
Nice 1911 9mm magazines(30.10.2014)
I bought six of these mags because my friend let me borrow his for a local action pistol match. They worked well in my Sprignfield Armory 1911 9mm Range Officer model. The few hangups I had were not due to the magazines. I have shot at least half a dozen matches with the magazines I bought and I am very pleased with them does far. I used a few 10 shot magazines and they were not as reliable in my gun as the Metalform magazines. If they were ten rounders, they would be perfect! A good prouduct and a good value.
Questionable(06.05.2015)
My only complaint is that not one of the 4 magazines of this brand I have purchased will drop free. All must be pulled from the mag well. Feeding of rounds was perfect. I have no issue with quality of construction. Other brands I have purchased will not feed properly, but drop free every time. I am getting to the point where I do not believe I can have both.
For practice only(25.10.2016)
Was looking for extra magazines for EDC. After trying this mag I would only use it for practice. Magazine does not release completely and inserts just not as good as factory. So would not trust my life with this product. It's surprising to me how many poor magazines are still made when manufacturing equipment and processes have improved greatly.
wold not use for EDC, competition or anytime you want it to work
no matter what.
Follower jumps over slide stop(02.11.2016)
Magazine works fine, except that the follower pops over top of the slide stop after the last round is fired. Not only does this mean that the slide won't lock back, but then I have to rip the magazine out. I bought two, and both magazines do this.
Bottom of the magazines are drilled for bumper pads, but the holes are not tapped.
Can be made to work(17.09.2017)
I bought two and, after tuning, I was able to get both to work properly eventually. Both fed properly from the start. Neither magazine would lock back the slide reliably, with the Rock Island 9mm slide catch, or either of the two Wilson Combat slide stops that I tried.
The tab on the magazine follower can be bent out so that the magazine will lock the slide open even with a .45ACP slide stop, but it took a lot of trial and error to get it just right. If you are going to try it, the tab on the follower should be out far enough to drag on the inside of the magazine tube, but not so far that you need 3 hands to get the 2nd round into the magazine..
Both of the magazines will hold 9 rounds, but one of the two is very difficult to load to full capacity for some reason.
As far as the feedramp at the front of the magazine goes, it probably doesn't hurt, but I don't think it really matters. My Rock Island G.I. model will not reliably or smoothly feed flatpoint or bullets with wide hollowpoints regardless of which magazine is used. With a factory-fresh follower or modified follower, it doesn't matter. Maybe with a ramped barrel, it might make a difference.
Although the base of the magazine is drilled for base pads, the holes are not tapped, and the self-tapping base pad screws are not hard or sharp enough to cut stainless steel. You will need the proper tap and a tap handle, and cutting fluid (Tap Majik) wouldn't hurt.
Unless you are married to the welded-base style of magazine, just buy the Chip McCormick 10-round 9mm magazines. The McCormick magazines work well without modification, disassemble easily, and don't need an additional magazine pad.
Best 9mm 1911 Mag (18.06.2015)
This magazine solves first round feeding and live round retention problems when performing tactical reloads. I have tried most of the 9mm magazines for 1911 with dismal to fair results. This magazine bests all of them with perfect performance. So good, I just ordered a few more.
First one and last one.(27.11.2017)
**Main problem : I need to make too much mods to make it work.
**Historic : I ordered 1x Metalform 1911 9mm magazine for my Springfield full size..
Directly out of the box, the magazine seems in good shape.
At the first loading up, I can't load it with more than 3 rounds.
The pusher-follower is moving inside the magazine and jam against internal wall.
**Details : Bad follower design : Flat top follower.
With flat-top follower, the round/ammo lateral positionning is unstable and the follower jam.
With more than 6 rounds, the first round on the follower is moving on the side and the follower move in the same direction.
Premium Wilson 500-9 and Mec-gar PI6070 have domed top follower, for more stability.
**Corrections :
Follower edge-rounding with a dremel tool.
Follower punching mark removal. (Smoother follower top)
Follower greasing.
Magazine spring top cutting for a better contact with the follower.
**Results :
Works correctly with 6 rounds and less.
More than 6 rounds, the follower jam all the time.
